First Baptist Church of Fort Sumner, New Mexico!

Alex’s House is happy to announce a new partnership with First Baptist Church of Fort Sumner, New Mexico!

While in Haiti with BGR, Sam & Delores York introduced Pastor Nathan Lawrence and his group to Bill during a worship service at Alex’s House. They were able to also spend a day helping with the kids and ended up spending time talking to Bill about the vision of Alex’s House. James 1:27 – God’s charge to take care of orphans and widows – came to mind and Alex’s House was a way for First Baptist to build a relationship and have a long term partnership.

Nathan noticed such a huge contrast between poorly run orphanages in Haiti and Alex’s House Orphanage; the difference was remarkable to him, “In Alex’s House it felt good – it felt like God’s Kingdom was being built there in the midst of suffering and darkness. The kids were being well taken care of and were exposed to the gospel.” It is the hope of First Baptist that partnering with Alex’s House will give them an opportunity to focus on issues outside of their own – to help build God’s Kingdom. The partnership is a tangible way for them to live out James 1:27 in a real and personal way.

First Baptist is not a large church – they average about 100 at a service – but they are excited to take this first step toward international missions. They will get to take a giant leap soon, as a group from First Baptist is heading to Haiti February 9-16 to do construction work at our Kalico site.

Thank you, First Baptist and Pastor Nathan Lawrence for helping us show God’s love to the children of Haiti. We cannot wait to see what God has in store!

Two New Blessings in Damien!

We officially have two new children in Damien!
We thank God for bringing these two wonderful children to Alex's House where they can not only be fed and clothed, but also learn about Jesus and His love for them.

Pierre is a 7 year old boy. Please prayerfully consider becoming a sponsor for Pierre - he needs both a Daily Bread Sponsor and a Child to School Sponsor.

Fadeline is a 4 year old girl who has already been blessed with a Daily Bread Sponsor, but  still needs a Child to School Sponsor.

We believe that God has already picked out sponsors for these two precious children of His... is one of them you?

Please Welcome North Point Community Church

We are pleased and excited to welcome North Point Community Church of Columbia, SC as a new partnering church with Alex’s House!

The pastor at North Point, John Sharp, has known Bill Howard for about 12 years and has seen him serve the Lord faithfully through a local Lexington church during that time. Because of the relationship and trust between John and Bill and their churches, there was an easy transition to partnering Alex’s House Orphanage with the people of North Point. Once John personally saw the awesome work being done in Haiti he believed God had assembled a great team of American and Haitian partners.

While in Haiti, John’s most unforgettable memory was the hugs and smiles of the kids from Alex’s House during the initial introduction – it stands as his favorite time in Haiti. On the flip side, he also recalls the dramatic experience of a parent offering her daughter to the group upon finding out who they were because she couldn’t take care of her.  John believes it is a blessing to serve the children and people of Haiti.

North Point Community Church is ready to give, serve and share as much as God offers them the opportunity, with the understanding that they will end up receiving more than they could ever give! They believe that lives and hearts are turning to God through the ministry of Alex’s House and its missionaries and are truly humbled and honored to play a small part of what our Big God is doing in Haiti. As a result of their involvement, God is working in hearts in North Point, too!

North Point currently sponsors 18 of our children and also has a group heading down to Haiti in February. We are so thankful for the partnership between Alex’s House and North Point Community Church and look forward to God continuing to work through this partnership in the future!

Welcome to Families Outreach!

We are happy to welcome Families Outreach (familiesoutreach.org) of Jonesboro, Arkansas as a new partnering… organization! Yes, we usually add partnering churches, but we love mixing things up – remember that your group doesn’t have to be a church to partner with Alex’s House Orphanage!

Families Outreach has been in existence for a little over a year and their platform is simple – bring hope to the fatherless. Their approach is threefold: assisting adoptive couples through adoption grants (both for domestic and for international adoption), developing active partnerships with orphan care providers and mobilizing the Church to become adoption/orphan advocates.

Families Outreach had a desire to partner with an indigenous group ministering to the orphans in their own community. Several years ago, the director Jon Morgan visited Bon Repos during a mission trip to Haiti.   Through that trip he met people who were connected to Alex’s House. As Families Outreach began searching out partnerships, Alex’s House kept coming back to the forefront of discussions. A month ago, they felt very strongly that God was leading them to Haiti and, more specifically, leading them to Alex’s House. One reason they decided to partner with Alex’s House was how impressed Families Outreach is with the leadership of Alex’s House. As Kendall Moss, Director of Public Relations, stated, “Everything that we have seen – how they care for the children and what they are providing – has pure intentions. We wanted to come along and help.”

On a trip to Haiti in December 2010, Kendall was struck by the amazing spirit of the Haitian people. “We would be talking to them in tin huts and they would want to thank the Lord for what they had.”

Kendall expressed a hope to see people in their community become more involved with both Families Outreach and Alex’s House through this partnership. Even though Families Outreach has only two employees, they have a wide reach in the community through different groups and church families. Families Outreach is raising the support money with the intention of creating a feeling of ownership between the givers and Alex’s House – not only by giving money, but by actually going to Haiti and serving on the ground. They hope to see people excited about getting involved; people who have never been on the mission field before getting connected through Alex’s House.

Families Outreach can’t wait to get on the ground and continue work with Alex’s House. “Everyone we have talked to has been so excited.” We at Alex’s House are also excited to be partnering with Families Outreach and we are looking forward to what God has in store for the future.

Construction Update - Meci Jezi!

We are so thankful for a great week of construction so far at our new property in Kalico!
A funny side note - some of the men in the group discovered if you go out in the field and stand below a cell tower, you can get a weak signal.... not strong enough to send pictures via their phones, but enough to at least send out an email or two.

Update from January 8:
Marc Proctor, Tim Depriest, Michael Brewer, Rick Mann + 12 Haitian brothers did an incredible job. We've completely poured the footers for two cottages and have the dining area planned out and staked.
(Others have since joined the construction group)

Update from January 9:
Wow! It is so exciting to see the cottages going up and knowing what a wonderful home for our children is in the making! Our goal is to have both cottages ready to pour the slab (floor) by the end of the week!
This place is so beautiful, so safe, so friendly - such a wonderful place to raise children.

We also thank God for Tori Weeks who is spending 2 weeks in Haiti going between Alex's House spending time with the kids and up in Kalico at the building site. Tori will give us a report of her time in Haiti in the coming weeks.

Here are some pictures Bill sent ... and one from Tori Weeks that she let me copy off her Facebook page.
